Final Reflection
This was my first online class and it has helped me immensely. I learned how to prioritize my tasks everyday to ensure that I get the important things done. I filled the rest of my day with smaller tasks. This helped me always get the critical things completed. While everyone may understand this concept, it takes a great discipline to actually follow the principle.
I am glad I took this class, however, I have to admit that I wanted to drop it because I am already a full-time nursing student, which is very demanding already. I was definitely pushed to my limits. However, after the first few weeks, I learned how to manage my time effectively. Completing this course on top of my first semester of nursing school is one of my goals. The last few weeks of this course was very difficult because there were so many assignments due at the same time as my nursing theory or pharmacology final. So, it was definitely difficult to find time for Sociology.
Nevertheless, I am pleased that I am more knowledgeable in understanding how every aspect of life is interrelated. I am more open minded and non-biased to matters that are controversial. I learned how to look at relationships between people as well as the relationship that we have with society. I have learned to see things that I have never thought about prior to taking this course. I learned about why people make the choices they do and why people hold opinions on other groups without ever meeting them. For instance, I learned that term race was created by society. It made me critically assess what color meant to me. Do I have racist opinions? This course unquestionably helped me look into my own thoughts and biases. In conclusion, this course changed my preconceived beliefs and allowed me to see everyone as equal. I am now open to experiencing different cultures rather then avoiding them. This class has left me with a better outlook on life. I have learned to think deeper into things. Academically, I have improved my critical thinking skills as well as my writing and reading abilities, which were also my goals for this semester. In the future, I want to continue to build on my critical thinking abilities. Critical thinking is a large part of nursing, therefore, it is a characteristic I want to master.
